Steelers Waiting on Left Tackle Decision
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will wait and see before deciding on their starting left tackle in Week 7. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Dan Moore Jr.'s health will determine their plan but was noncommittal on declaring him ready enough to take back over against the Los Angeles Rams.
Moore missed Week 5 with an MCL sprain that he suffered against the Houston Texans in Week 4. First-round pick Broderick Jones started in his place, which immediately sparked conversation about whether or not Moore would ever return to the starting lineup.
The veteran is listed as the starter on the team's official depth chart, but when Tomlin was asked about the situation, he turned his focus on the injury.
"That’s a big if," Tomlin said if Moore would start if healthy. "We’ve got some work ahead of us. He’ll be given an opportunity to show his progress over the course of the week, and we’ll make that decision at the appropriate time. It doesn’t behoove us to make hypothetical statements in the early portions of the week. He looked pretty good yesterday. We’ll see where the week leads us.”
Moore told reporters earlier this week that he was practicing with the first team after returning. However, he wasn't certain whether or not he or Jones would start this weekend.
The team will release injury reports throughout the week, and Moore's participation should provide some intel on his game status. If that means he'll be the first tackle on the field is yet to be determined.
