PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers made a massive trade, landing former first-round pick Justin Fields, acquiring the quarterback from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.

Now, the Steelers' roster consists of Fields and Russell Wilson after the team traded Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, despite having two former starters on the team, head coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly told Fields that Wilson will start in 2024.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Steelers have informed Fields that he will be Wilson's backup this season. Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette's Gerry Dulac also reported that it's "unlikely" the team will pick up Fields's fifth-year option before May 2.

Fields is 10-28 as a starter in the NFL, but is entering just his fourth season in the league. Wilson went 7-8 for the Denver Broncos last season, but is a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion.

Last season, he threw for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

The Steelers will hope Wilson turns his career back toward the Hall of Fame while Fields is able to learn behind the veteran. In the best-case scenario, Pittsburgh ends up with two starter-worthy players and options for the future.
