Joey Porter Jr. Teaches Steelers a Lesson

At training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers will never be perfect.
In this story:

LATROBE -- In the game of football, it's not about what happened; it's about what happens next. That couldn't be more true for Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Joey Porter Jr.

Porter Jr. has caught the wrong side of a viral wave. In seven days of training camp practice, the Steelers cornerback has been beaten by wide receiver George Pickens more than once, including an acrobatic catch that soared through the internet and showed the second-year wideout throwing the ball at Porter's face after the play.

"Next play mentality," Porter said about the catch.

That couldn't be more true. The rookie lost more battles afterward, but it didn't put him down. He continued to grind, continued to work and in camp's biggest moment yet, he sealed the deal for the defense in a two-minute drill victory at practice.

One-on-one losses to Pickens may go viral, but intercepting Kenny Pickett on the sideline to hand the defense a win always means more.

The same can be said about Darnell Washington, Calvin Austin, Kenny Robinson, and many others. It hasn't been the cleanest camp for any of them, but they've all bounced back with bigger wins than their losses.

At training camp, it's not about what just happened, it's about what happens next.
