According to one NFL Insider, Houston Texans quarterback Bryce Young is likely heading to the Carolina Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick.

The Houston Texans' choice at quarterback seems to be getting clearer by the day.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Carolina Panthers are eyeing Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month.

Schefter is so confident that Young is heading to Carolina in fact, that he has dubbed his visit to Houston as a 'waste of time.'

"Bryce Young is going to visit the Houston Texans. I think its a waste of time," Schefter said on NFL Live. "I think the ship has sailed. I think Bryce Young is going to be the No. 1 pick. They're not going to have a chance to take the guy that, I think, they would have liked to have taken."

Young had long been connected to the Texans since the draft order was finalized, with a majority of insiders and mock drafts pointing to the Panthers preferring Ohio State's C.J. Stroud with the top pick.

However, in recent days, those winds seem to have shifted, with Young now the favorite to go No. 1, according to multiple reports.

In two seasons as the Tide's starter, Young threw for 8,356 yards and 80 touchdowns, with just 12 interceptions, while leading his team to a 24-3 record, and SEC title (2021) and a national title appearance (2021)

And despite the concerns about his size, the Panthers do not seem to be shying away from the Heisman winner.

As we have seen in recent years, with quarterbacks like Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, and Kyler Murray, size is not everything.

So, should Young indeed be the Panthers' choice, what do the Texans do from here?

Stroud would seem to be the obvious choice, with former NFL GM and Schefter colleague Louis Riddick calling the Ohio State passer 'The Gem' of the NFL Draft.

"In my opinion, Stroud is the gem of the quarterback class," Riddick wrote Monday. "At 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds, he was one of the most accurate passers in college football over the past two seasons, and he makes good decisions with the ball."

However, that choice ultimately falls to DeMeco Ryans and Nick Caserio, whose decision at No. 2 will be the most critical and impactful pick the franchise has made since Deshaun Watson in 2017
