Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud to Visit Texans Ahead of NFL Draft
The 2023 NFL Draft will take place on Apr. 27 and the Houston Texans have the No. 2 and No. 12 picks in the first round. The Houston Texans finished 3-13-1 as the second-worst team in the league last season and did so behind the eighth-worst passing attack, mustering up 3,642 passing yards.
All signs point to the Texans selecting a quarterback at No. 2, and KPRC 2 Houston reports that the franchise will meet with Bryce Young (Alabama) and C.J. Stroud (Ohio State) among other prospects in the near future:
Young won the BCS National Championship with Alabama as a reserve in his freshman season. Once promoted to the starting role, he threw for 4,872 yards with a 66.9 completion percentage.
In 2022, Young only played in 12 games but maintained 8.8 passing yards per attempt, a hair smaller than his 8.9 yards per attempt in 2021.
He also developed a semblance of a running attack, rushing for 185 total yards on 49 attempts -- the first time he had netted a single rushing yard or better in any of his three collegiate seasons.
Meanwhile, Stroud was a pillar for OSU. A third-year quarterback like Young, Stroud threw for five or more touchdowns in four of his 13 games played in 2022. His 41-6 TD-INT ratio established him as a quality and efficient decision-maker under center that could make the right reads.
Young and Stroud will be joined by Anthony Richardson (Florida), Will Levis (Kentucky) and Hendon Hooker (Tennessee) in evaluations. All three stand 6-3 and above compared to Young who has been questioned for his stature at 5-10 -- a detracting factor some believe may cause teams to look the other way on draft night.
The Texans look to do their due diligence before investing in a franchise cornerstone of the future.
