QB Bryce Young Reveals Why He Limited Pre-Draft Visits To Panthers and Texans

During his appearance on ESPN's First Take, quarterback prospect Bryce Young revealed his decision to limit his pre-draft workout to the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.
In this story:

HOUSTON — Alabama's quarterback prospect Bryce Young will not have to wait long before hearing his name called at the 2023 NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers are in a prime position to take Young with the No. 1 overall pick. But if the Panthers decide to go in another direction, Young will likely not fall past the Houston Texans at No. 2.

Young held two Top-30 visits with the Panthers and Texans. The Indianapolis Colts were one of several teams who had a meeting scheduled with Young. But according to NFL Network, Young canceled his remaining pre-draft workout visits.

And following his appearance on ESPN's First Take Wednesday morning, Young said the decision was about logistics.

"I wanted to do everything that I can to focus on getting ready for whenever my name is called," Young said. "I just wanted to make sure I am working out and training, so I can give my all to whatever franchise chooses me."

Young has established himself as the top-rated quarterback prospect entering the draft, slightly over Ohio State's C.J. Stroud. He threw for 8,356 yards while completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 80 touchdowns and a dozen interceptions during his three seasons at Alabama.

He became a Heisman winner in 2021 after he led Alabama to a 13-2 record but fell short of the National Championship title. He finished the season throwing for 4,872 yards, 47 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Young revealed he had not received confirmation that the Panthers will take him with the first overall pick on April 27. But it appears either Carolina or Houston will make for Young's next career stop.

"I know what I am capable of," Young said. "I've been playing with a lot of people who have been bigger than me my entire life. I've always been the smallest on the field, and it will not change on the next level.

"On the next level, it's about how quickly you can process. How well can you make the right decision, and how well you can get the ball out of your hands. I am ready for the challenge on the next level."
