Houston Texans Added As Co-Defendant In Case Against Browns QB Deshaun Watson
According to multiple reports based on court records obtained on Monday morning, the Houston Texans have been named as an additional defendant in the remaining civil lawsuit against former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The 25th sexual misconduct lawsuit against Watson was made on June 22nd by Anissah M. Nguyen and the Universal Law Group on behalf of “Jane Doe”. The lawsuit alleges Watson attempted to solicit sexually-related acts, including intercourse with the plaintiff during a massage session in December 2020.
The new filings accuse the Texans as an organization of vicarious liability, negligence/gross negligence and civil conspiracy.
After being traded to the Cleveland Browns in a blockbuster deal last year, Watson was forced to serve an 11-game suspension and pay a $5 million fine for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Two grand juries declined to indict Watson on any criminal charges based on the multiple civil lawsuits.
Per a previous report from the New York Times, the former Clemson signal-caller met with "at least" 66 different women from 2019 to 2021, including 24 who filed civil lawsuits against him.
Watson was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans after a stellar career at Clemson. Watson threw for 10,168 yards and 90 touchdowns in three seasons in the ACC, while also rushing for 1,934 yards and an additional 26 scores.
Watson became disgruntled with front office and coaching changes within the Texans organization after the 2020 season and demanded a trade. Watson was ruled out every game of the 2021 season for "non-injury reasons/personal matter."
On March 18, 2022, Watson and the Texans' 2024 sixth-round draft pick were traded to the Cleveland Browns for the Browns' first-round draft picks in 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as Cleveland's third-round pick in 2023 and fourth-round picks in 2022 and 2024.
