'Amazing!' Rookie C.J. Stroud Scouting Report - From Texans' Jimmie Ward
The Houston Texans were slow during spring time to name a starting QB for Week 1, clarifying C.J. Stroud must earn the job. But as training camp approaches, it is clear the rookie has won over the media, the coaching staff and his defensive teammates.
"He is a ballplayer, I'll tell you that. He made some great throws," safety Jimmie Ward told Jim Rome. " He's able to come and make these throws so confident, and it's just crazy."
Ward, a true veteran, has spent nine years as a defensive back in the NFL, seeing countless quarterbacks over the course of his 106 games. But he is wholly impressed with the youthful Stroud.
"It's amazing to me to see it, a guy so young to come and get some reps versus the [defensive starters] and make great throws," Ward continued. "He has a lot of power in his arm."
The Ohio State product threw for 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns for the Buckeyes, only tossing 12 interceptions in 830 attempts. Since being taken with the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, the former Heisman finalist Stroud brought energy to the Texans' OTAs.
With that experience and rapport now built around Houston, it's hard to think the Texans will go in a direction different from Stroud as the Day 1 starter when the team meets the Baltimore Ravens this fall. ... and hopefully more "amazing'' will come of the move.
