'Together 24/7': Texans QB C.J. Stroud Building Bond With Rookie WRs
While there has yet to be a formal declaration as to who will start at the quarterback for the Houston Texans this fall, the popular conclusion points to one name - rookie C.J. Stroud.
For now, though, Stroud is locked in a quarterback battle with Houston's incumbent Davis Mills. Despite that, though, the rookie is confident that he's getting better on a daily basis so far.
“I feel like I’ve done well,” Stroud told Houston's KPRC 2. “(Organized team activities and minicamp) was something I wanted to just put my best in and just be a great leader as well as a great player, soak in the playbook, soak in coaching and be as best I can."
"I think that was a good start, a good routine to get into training camp and do better there.”
The potential is undoubtedly there for Stroud to be the next great franchise quarterback for the Texans. One look at his numbers from his time at Ohio State is all it takes to see that.
In his two seasons as a starter for the Buckeyes, Stroud lit up defenses. He threw for 8,123 yards with 85 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions while completing 69.3 percent of his passes.
Joining Stroud in Houston as part of the 2023 draft is a pair of promising receivers in Tank Dell and Xavier Hutchinson, who he has spent plenty of time with so far this offseason.
“Yeah, we’re together 24-7,” Stroud said. “We’re doing all the hard stuff together, all the good stuff and we’re blessed enough to have a great rookie class. Those guys are at the forefront of that and we’re going to do well.”
There is no telling just how good Stroud will be for the Texans, or how soon. His rookie season will likely come with ups and downs. If he reaches his full potential, though, he can be something special in Houston.
