Deshaun Watson 'Would Love' For Browns to Sign DeAndre Hopkins
Could Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins be in for a reunion with the Cleveland Browns?
Well, if Watson has his way, that just might be the case, with the quarterback telling reporters on Tuesday that he would 'love to have' Hopkins join him in Cleveland.
“I know it’s a lot of things swirling around in the media, you know, [about] him possibly coming to Cleveland,” Watson said. “For me, my answer to that is of course we’d love to have him. He knows that.”
Hopkins and Watson played in 38 games together with the Houston Texans and recorded 24 victories, including a trip to the AFC Divisional Playoff round in 2019, becoming one of the most feared quarterback/wide receiver duos in the NFL.
However, since the trade of Hopkins to Arizona, Houston has won 11 games in the previous three seasons.
Before departing for the Cardinals, Hopkins spent seven seasons with the Texans, and had arguably a hall-of-fame career, making 632 catches on 1,048 targets for 8.602 yards and 54 touchdowns in 110 games.
That said, Should Hopkins and Watson attempt to reunite in Cleveland, there are a few hurdles the Browns must overcome. Most notably, the Browns are likely going to be far from the only suitor for Hopkins' talents. The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs have both expressed an interest in the five-time Pro-Bowler.
Not to mention, Hopkins seeks a "good deal," which could, in theory, strap down many of the franchises who are pursuing him, depending on what kind of salary he wants.
Either way, one thing is clear - if Watson and Hopkins do rejoin forces in Cleveland, things could get very interesting in the AFC North and beyond next season.
