Could Texans Go Defense At No. 2, Trade For QB Brock Purdy?

If their "guy" is off the board at No. 2, could Houston decide to go defense and bolster up the pass rush?
In this story:

The Houston Texans could be faced with a dilemma com April 27, the first day of the NFL Draft. Reports are that they are high on Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, but not so much on the other signal-callers at No. 2 overall.

If Carolina takes Young with the first overall pick, would Houston "settle" for an Anthony Richardson or C.J. Stroud?

Or would they employ the tactic of taking the best player available, and take the top defensive player on their board, whoever that may be?

If that's the case, the Texans will be forced to find quarterback help somewhere else. And if that's the case, with coach DeMeco Ryans' relationship with the San Francisco 49ers, could Houston pull off a trade for Brock Purdy?

San Francisco GM John Lynch recently endorsed Purdy as the 49ers starter, but is he really sold on that? The team invested three first-round picks and a third-rounder in Trey Lance, and until his season-ending injury last year, were convinced he was the guy.

Purdy might not be that expensive, given his lack of playing time and recent injury. Purdy played in only 12 games including the postseason last year after being selected last overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Regardless of his success last season, Purdy is still largely unproven. So Houston might be able to get him for something less than a first-round pick.

If Houston doesn't go quarterback with No. 2 overall then what direction do they go?

Some speculation indicates Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson has moved ahead of Alabama's Will Anderson and Georgia's Jalen Carter.

After quarterbacks, pass-rushers are often referred to as the next most important position. If their quarterback is off the board and they choose to go defense, the Texans would have options.

Could Purdy be the guy? Could Wilson be a Texan?

Come April 27, we'll see.
