Texans Nick Caserio Lands in Bottom Half of NFL GM Power Rankings
The Houston Texans have not won more than four games in a season since going 10-6 in 2019 and winning the AFC South.
Since then they have amassed an uninspiring 11-38-1 and have found themselves toiling away in a rebuild. While some of that blame does lie on coaching and on-field performance, the front office also bears some blame.
Nick Caserio entered a far from favorable situation when he was named the general manager of the Texans in 2021, but he has not done himself any favors since then either - with NFL.com ranking him as the 24th-ranked general manager in the NFL in their general manager power rankings.
One of the biggest arguments made against Caserio and a key reason he ranks so low is his hiring of three head coaches in his first three years as general manager. To put in context how bad that it is, it is the only time that has occurred in NFL history.
However, it hasn't been all bad for Caserio as the Texans put together a strong 2022 draft class which yielded three franchise cornerstones in cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., safety Jalen Pitre and running back Dameon Pierce.
With a pair of first-round picks in the upcoming draft, the Texans are in a prime position to turn the corner on the rebuild and slowly start contending. Caserio has also had a strong offseason in free agency thanks to the addition of guys like tight end Dalton Schultz and receiver Robert Woods.
Amidst rumors of his future in Houston being in jeopardy, Caserio is in a position to cement his status for the time being with a strong draft. If not, well, it could be another long season in Houston that leads to Caserio's departure.
