Texans Hire Browns Assistant Chris Kiffin As LB Coach

Kiffin is coming off of his third year in Cleveland and sixth overall in the NFL, and brings with him valuable experience to Houston's much-anticipated defense.

Add another new hire to DeMeco Ryans' coaching staff.

The Houston Texans have now hired Chris Kiffin — former defensive line coach from Cleveland, to oversee their linebackers next season.

Kiffin, the younger brother of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, is a six-year veteran coach in the league, and was responsible for coaching Cleveland's Myles Garrett during his three years with the team.

In that span, Garrett earned multiple first team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections, along with ranking top-five in the league in strip sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, and the Browns defense as a whole ranked the highest it had been ranked since 1987.

Prior to coaching the Browns, Kiffin also spent time in San Francisco with Ryans — marking another familiar hire for the new head coach.

During his time with the 49ers, Kiffin served as the pass-rush specialist, and was a big part of developing Nick Bosa — the NFL's most recent DPOY —  during his rookie season.

Kiffin's past experience no-doubt earned him a positive reputation, especially for a former colleague of his in Ryans. As for the Texans, they will continue to look for the best candidates they can find to fill the remaining roles on Ryans' staff during the offseason.
