DeMeco Ryans, Texans Hire Jake Olson To Coaching Staff
HOUSTON — Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans is nearly done putting together his first official staff. Ryans' latest hiring came Saturday afternoon by adding Jake Olson as Assistant Senior Assistant, according to reports.
Olson was a former Kent State athletic director of football operations. The hiring of Olson puts Ryans one step closer to achieving his goal of putting together a diverse coaching staff.
"We want coaches who are great teachers,” Ryans said. "That’s the one thing we are looking for most importantly is great teachers. We want guys who are positive and bring positive energy.
"We want guys who can connect with players. If you can connect with players, then you can lead players. If you can’t connect, there is no way you can coach those guys. We want guys who are bringing energy and doing it in a fun way. Guys who are truly committed to working together as well."
Ryans and the Texans have hired San Francisco 49ers passing-game coordinator Bobby Slowik as the team's new offensive coordinator.
Slowik's hiring came off the heels of the Texans' hiring of Matt Burke as defensive coordinator. Houston also hired Jerrod Johnson as quarterbacks coach.
