Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans and GM Nick Caserio Have 'Hit The Ground Running'

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans discusses working with general manager Nick Caserio
In this story:

As the NFL combine continues this week, new Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans took a moment to discuss working with general manager Nick Caserio.

Caserio was hired in Houston as the new Texans general manager on Jan. 7, 2021, after spending the prior 20 seasons with the New England Patriots.

Ryans, meanwhile, was hired two years later by the Texans on Jan. 31 after an impressive run as a defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

"It’s been awesome working with Nick," Ryans said. "We hit the ground running. There haven’t been many breaks or much rest. We’ve hit the ground running and Nick is awesome to work with. Nick is a very knowledgeable guy and I’m happy to be a part of a team that has a GM in place who has so much experience; a guy that I can bounce ideas off of."

Ryans also firmly believes that Caserio's insight from being New England's director of player personnel from 2008-2020 will help both himself and his team grow.

"He’s seen it done many ways and seen a lot of different players," Ryans said. "Just having his knowledge and his experience has really been very beneficial to me. I’m excited to work with Nick."

Communication between both Ryans and Caserio has been vital as the Texans embark upon a new journey.

The first hurdle in that journey will begin with the 2023 NFL Draft, in which Houston owns a whopping 12 picks, including No. 2 and No. 12 overall.

"It’s been a very smooth transition, a smooth process," Ryans said. "Communication has been awesome working with Nick. We see the game the same way, which is great. We see the game the same way and see players the same. It will be really nice to continue to work with him."

Ryans is the third coaching hire under Caserio since he took the helm as general manager in 2021.

Hopefully, for the Texans, the third time will be the charm.
