DeMeco Ryans' Texans 'In A Really Good Spot' Ahead of Training Camp

Just a month away from Houston's official training camp, coach DeMeco Ryans has liked what he's seen so far in his team's rebuilding efforts.
In this story:

Two months ago, the Houston Texans welcomed a new class of rookies in their 2023 Draft Class. A month later, Houston's rookies completed their obligatory rookie minicamp. And just over two weeks ago, the entire team powered through OTAs.

Now, training camp stands as the last obstacle of the offseason before the Texans finally get their chance to hit the field for the preseason and start turning things around.

And if camp proves to be as successful as this spring has been for rookie coach DeMeco Ryans and company, Houston could turn its hopes of having a bounce-back season into a reality.

“We’re in a really good spot,” Ryans said at the conclusion of Houston's OTAs. “[I] like the way the guys are competing back and forth, offense, defense — both [squads are] making plays, challenging each other ... that’s exactly what I wanted.”

Since his hiring, Ryans has been the face of the Texans' rebuild, which has taken shape in just the few months he's been in Houston. His player-first mentality has stuck with his players and helped foster trust between him and his squad — a big reason for the noticeable change of energy in and around the facilities.

“I want our guys to be excited," Ryans said. "Not only about playing football, but excited about who [they] are playing football with — the men in that huddle with [them]. And that’s where we’ve gotten.”

The Texans are set to take the field for the first time of the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 10 against the Baltimore Ravens on the road.
