Houston Texans Fall to Jacksonville Jaguars in Late Heartbreaker
The Houston Texans came into their Sunday matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars riding a three-game winning streak - each win of which was made possible by late-game heroics from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Against the Jaguars, however, that winning streak came to an abrupt end, with the Texans falling 24-21 in another late-game affair.
For a moment late in the fourth quarter, it looked like Stroud and the Texans would have another opportunity to steal one in the final moments.
Only this time, they ran out of time, with that drive coming up short, and resulting in a missed field goal from backup kicker Matt Ammendola from 58 yards out - a kick that fell just short after hitting the crossbar.
Once again, the Texans were led by their rising rookie QB in Stroud, who finished the game completing 26 of 36 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a team-high 47 yards on six carries with another score.
Nico Collins led the way for the Texans in terms of receiving, catching seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Rookie wide receiver Tank Dell was also a big piece of the puzzle for Houston, catching five passes for 50 yards and a score.
Following the loss, the Texans now drop to 6-5 on the season, missing their opportunity to take over first place in the AFC South.
The Texans will now turn their attention to another home matchup next Sunday, this time against the 5-5 Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos.
