Texans Post Cryptic Tweet: J.J. Watt Retiring in Houston?
The Houston Texans posted a tweet with no words, no substantive photo and zero context on Thursday. That tweet has 1.7 million views and climbing. And it's all about mystique.
Rightfully so, Houston fans have been driven nuts over the cryptic post that says simply "06.12.2023." As for what the Texans have in store to announce on Monday, commenters have guessed absurdities from a Brazilian Valentine's Day celebration to signing Deandre Hopkins.
But one theory seems most prevalent, and it holds some weight: the announcement involves Texans legend J.J. Watt in some way.
Watt began his career in Houston in 2011 and played for the Texans up until 2020, finishing his career with the Arizona Cardinals for two years and hanging up the cleats.
Being immersed in the Houston culture, though, it wouldn't be shocking to see Watt sign a one-day contract to sign with the team he gave nine years to. It also wouldn't be shocking to see that team retire number 99.
Conspiracy theorists in the comments have noticed that the player posed in the picture is wearing a facemask identical to Watt's and the shoulder pads display a number that looks quite similar to a folded 99.
Sure, the organization could be announcing something as simple as a new uniform combination, but that would be a letdown for a graphic so mysterious.
In all, whether it's a Watt bomb or a simple jersey tweak, be confident it won't be a Brazilian Valentine's Day post or a Deandre Hopkins announcement. Keep your eyes peeled, and check back on Monday.
