'Smart Subtle Move!' Texans' Josh Jones Trade Draws Praise from Analyst
The Houston Texans made a notable roster move on Thursday, sending a 2024 fifth-round draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals for offensive tackle Josh Jones and a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Jones, who parlayed a strong college career at the University of Houston into being a third-round selection in 2020, started nine of 17 games played for the Cardinals last season and 12 of 17 the year before.
Still only 26 years old, Jones brings a blend of youth, talent and starting experience, making him an intriguing trade acquisition ... and Reese's Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy believes it was a sound decision from Texans general manager Nick Caserio and staff.
"Trading for Josh Jones is another smart subtle roster-building move by Texans front office," Nagy tweeted. "In a league where tackle depth is scarce, Jones gives them an ascending & still relatively young player. Always thought Jones would be a solid starter level player, at minimum."
Houston is expected to be without starting right tackle Tytus Howard during the early stages of the season, which left a vacancy that Jones has the credentials to fill. Veteran offensive tackle George Fant has filled the role throughout training camp.
If nothing else, as Nagy mentioned, Jones provides quality depth at a position where it can be hard to find, and he'll do so at a discounted price tag ... which makes this quite the "smart subtle roster-building move" by Caserio and the rest of Houston's front office.
