Texans LT Laremy Tunsil Reveals Expectations: ‘Don’t Sleep!’

Houston Texans Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil spoke on "The Adam Schefter Podcast" about the state of his team and what to expect.

When the Cincinnati Bengals went from worst to nearly first in the 2021-22 season, it sparked the possibility that this could happen to any team any year. The NFL community has rallied around the "which team will make a Bengals-like turnaround" question ever since.

Houston Texans Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil spoke on "The Adam Schefter Podcast," stating that his team might be the one who accomplishes something similar for this season.

"Don't sleep on us, man," Tunsil said. "It's gonna be a good season. I see how these guys work. They care about the game of football and that's what we need on this team to get it done."

When fans think generally about the Texans, they reflect on their abysmal 11-38-1 record over the last three seasons and assume they have a subpar team once again this season. Even Schefter, arguably the face of NFL media, didn't realize the Texans had an underrated roster until Tunsil listed some players.

"There is some talent there now that you mention all these names," Schefter said. "I just don't think people think of the Texans these days like that. So, if you're correct and we shouldn't be sleeping on the Texans, it should be a very fun year in Houston."

Schefter even assumed that the city of Houston doesn't believe in them, but the front office will keep the Texans' unknown talent hidden until Week 1.

"I don't think expectations around the city and around the league are as high as they probably are within the organization," Schefter said.

The Texans went through a lot of remodeling over the offseason. Houston hired San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as the next coach and he brought along 49ers offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik for the same position.

The Texans also added several talented players on both sides of the ball, like C.J. Stroud, Dalton Schultz and Will Anderson Jr., and have raved about the ones that remain from last year, including Jalen Pitre, Derek Stingley Jr. and Dameon Pierce.

Texans training camp begins on July 28. The NFL community might catch a small glimpse of what Tunsil means then.
