Texans Cancel Joint Practices With Saints

The Houston Texans have taken advantage of joint practices throughout the preseason, but will not this week.
In this story:

Like most teams around the league, the Houston Texans have been capitalizing on the advantages that joint practices serve, but this week that will not be the case.

Houston and the New Orleans Saints announced Sunday night that this week's joint practices between the two teams that were scheduled to take place in Louisiana have been canceled.

The decision was mutually agreed upon by both coaches and organizations, but further reasoning why was not given in their joint statement released on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Our two teams have mutually agreed to cancel the joint practices that were scheduled in New Orleans this week," both the Texans and Saints organizations said in a joint statement. "After our head coaches spoke earlier today, we decided this was in the best interest of both teams as we continue to prepare for the regular season. A revised practice schedule for each team will be communicated once finalized."

Houston held joint practices with the Miami Dolphins last week and many players and coaches have discussed the advantages that come with hosting them: seeing different schematic looks and getting more repetitions for starters in a controlled setting in lieu of in-game playing time.

However, as seen with the rampant amount of fights that have broken out across the league, there are some disadvantages to hosting the joint practices as well.

The Texans are scheduled to play the Saints at Caesars Superdome on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. CT.
