'We Got You': Texans Adding Oilers-Inspired Colors in 2024?
HOUSTON — It has been nearly 30 years since the city of Houston witnessed its pro football team take to the field in H-Town Blue colors. But that could change in 2024.
According to In the Loop co-host John Lopez, Houston Texans senior vice president of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer Doug Vosik joined the daily program on Sports Radio 610.
Vosik talked about the future of the team's new uniforms. When asked about the possibility of having H-Town Blue return to the city, Vosik responded, "we got you," Thursday afternoon.
H-Town Blue is equivalent to the Columbia Blue jerseys of the Houston Oilers.
The Oilers became an NFL franchise in 1960 and spent over three decades as Houston's original team. They relocated to Tennessee in 1997. And despite re-branding to the "Titans,'' the franchise retained ownership of the name and team branding of the "Oilers.''
The 2009 season marked the last time the Titans wore their Oilers uniform. It came during the Titans' 41-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills as part of their 50th-anniversary celebration.
Robert Brazile, Earl Campbell and Warren Moon are a few legends who established the Oilers as contenders during their time in Houston.
The Oilers' finest season came during the 1993 campaign when Houston won a franchise-best 12 wins. Moon recorded his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl after throwing for 3,485 yards and 21 touchdowns.
The Titans will bring back the classic Oilers jerseys twice this season. They will debut their throwbacks on Oct. 29 in a home match against the Atlanta Falcons. The Titans will wear their Oilers jerseys for the final time on Dec. 17 against the Texans.
