Where Does Texans’ C.J. Stroud Rank on New QB Countdown?
The Houston Texans used the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on C.J. Stroud, and they hope that the Ohio State product will develop into one of the league's best quarterbacks.
For now, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports says that he believes Stroud is the 27th-best quarterback in the NFL:
"While Stroud boasts a more pro-ready pocket-passing acumen than Anthony Richardson, he's not necessarily a game-changing threat on the ground, and his rebuilding Texans still have work to do in terms of giving him legit support."
Interestingly, Stroud is ranked behind both Bryce Young of the Carolina Panthers (this year's No. 1 overall pick) and Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts, who was taken two picks after him in the NFL Draft.
Over his final two seasons at Ohio State, Stroud tossed 85 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, racking up 8,123 pass yards and earning two First-Team All-Big 10 selections.
Certainly, though, Stroud has his work cut out as he joins a Texans team that's won 11 combined games over the last three seasons. Laremy Tunsil, Dameon Pierce and Dalton Schultz are nice offensive pieces, but overall, the Texans are still very much rebuilding their offensive talent.
For what it's worth, former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson came in at No. 10 on the list as he prepares for his first full season with the Cleveland Browns.
