Texans Select Pitt S Brandon Hill With Pick No. 248
The Houston Texans wrapped up a strong showing at the 2023 NFL draft with their final pick in the seventh round, selecting safety Brandon Hill out of Pittsburgh at No. 248 overall.
Hill joins a Texans secondary that added two young franchise cornerstones in last year's draft in cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and safety Jalen Pitre, giving Houston another young prospect to work with.
In his final season at Pitt, Hill showcased a strong ability to come downhill and meet the ball carrier, recording 67 total tackles while also recovering a fumble which he returned for a touchdown.
"Brandon Hill is an undersized, versatile safety with good quickness and athleticism to make a play in the run game as well as being capable of covering receivers in zone and man. His production and quality of play dipped from 2021 to 2022, but his potential fits as a rangy safety at the next level and special teams contributor," SI Draft Bible wrote about Hill.
While he might not start right away for a talented Texans secondary, Hill gives Houston key depth on defense while also looking to make a strong impression on special teams early as a rookie.
