Texans NFL Draft: Houston Meets With Michigan State's Jayden Reed
The Houston Texans have been hard at work during NFL Scouting Combine this week.
Having met with numerous quarterbacks and an edge rusher so far, the Texans also conducted a formal meeting with Michigan State receiver Jayden Reed.
The prospect is not projected to be a first-rounder, though his stock has been on the rise since he made a splash at the senior bowl — clocking in a speed of just over 20 miles per hour and showing flashes of elite talent.
His standout performance was enough for him to be named the National team’s wide receiver practice player of the week.
Last season for the Spartans, Reed hauled in 55 catches for 636 yards and five touchdowns, finishing second on the team in receiving yards.
Reed returned to Michigan State with hopes of having a “legendary" final year, though his numbers saw a significant decrease from his previous season, as he was coming off a more than 1000-yard performance with 10 touchdowns.
Despite that decrease, Reed still proved his playmaking ability, citing his ability to create separation as one of his strengths.
Now, he is preparing to play at the next level, having already met with several teams in the league, including the Texans.
Houston may be looking to deal veteran receiver Brandin Cooks before the start of the season, making drafting a young prospect like Reed more enticing for them ahead of next season.
So fans will just have to wait and see.
