Texans Appear Noncommittal on Future of WR Brandin Cooks

Coach DeMeco Ryans has met with Brandin Cooks, but it appears the Houston Texans are noncommittal about mending their relationship with the veteran wide receiver.
In this story:

HOUSTON — Brandin Cooks had no interest in leaving the Houston Texans following the 2020 campaign. But two years after declaring he would "not accept any more trades," the veteran wide receiver has changed his tone.

The Texans came close to trading Cooks during the NFL trade deadline In November. But after Houston failed to find a trade partner, the disgruntled receiver expressed his displeasure several times on social media.

However, both Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio were non-committal at best when speaking about the wideout recently.

Ryans revealed at the NFL Scouting Combine that he has spoken to Cooks since his hiring, and would like to work with him

Meanwhile, Caserio mentioned that the Texans will do what's best for the organization when determining how to move forward with Cooks.

"I’d say we’re in the team-building process here," said Caserio. "Every player, every individual situation we’ll look at it. Then, ultimately we’ll do what feels best for the team and the organization moving forward."

Cooks has been the Texans' top receiver since the Los Angeles Rams traded him to Houston in 2020.

He has appeared in 44 games since joining the Texans. He has recorded 2,886 yards on 238 catches and 15 touchdowns with Houston. Cooks has reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark in two of his three seasons with the Texans.

In what could be Cooks' final game as a member of the Texans, he led Houston to a 32-31 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Jan. 8. He put together his best performance of the season by finishing the day with 106 yards on five catches and a touchdown.

The Rams, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings were all rumored to be in consideration to land Cooks in November.
