Coach Pep Hamilton Moves from Texans to TV
HOUSTON — J.J. Watt is not the only former member of the Houston Texans who will be making a transition from the gridiron to television. The Texans' former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton announced his decision to join NFL Network for the 2023 season.
Hamilton's announcement on social media came five months after coach DeMeco Ryans named Bobby Slowik as the team's new offensive coordinator.
Hamilton served as Houston's offensive coordinator after taking over for Tim Kelly in 2022. He was elevated from quarterbacks coach under former coach Lovie Smith.
The Texans offense made no statistical improvements under Hamilton. They finished 31st in total yardages (4,820), rushing (86.8) and 25th in passing (196.7) during the 2022 campaign.
Hamilton's ouster from Houston ended his second stint as an offensive coordinator. His first came in 2013 by the Indianapolis Colts. He spent three seasons with the Colts before his firing in 2015.
Before joining the Texans, Hamilton spent the 2020 campaign as the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, where he helped develop Justin Herbert as a rookie.
Former Buffalo Bills assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will join Hamilton at NFL Network. Frazier will begin his broadcasting career following his jettison from Buffalo in February.
Watt announced in June he has joined CBS Sports following his retirement from the NFL. The Texans icon said he wanted a Pittsburgh Steeler-related "global platform" to make fun of his brothers, Derek and T.J. Watt.
