Texans Lamar Jackson Trade? Houston Makes QB Choice

The Houston Texans are one of several teams who will not enter the sweepstakes for Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson this off-season.

HOUSTON — The market for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson appears to dwindle by the day.

As of Thursday, just about every team that could use an upgrade at the position has pulled its name out of the running for Jackson.

And now, that list includes the Houston Texans.

According to KPRC, the Texans are not expected to pursue Jackson this off-season, who revealed via social media that he requested a trade from the organization on March 2.

Coach DeMeco Ryans said the Texans have looked at all options when evaluating how to improve their quarterback room and mentioned Jackson would fall into the category during the NFL owners meeting.

But it appears the Texans have decided to move on from Jackson.

The franchise tag the Ravens placed on Jackson is worth $32.4 million for the 2023 season.

However, Jackson is seeking a long-term deal similar to the five-year fully guaranteed $230 million contract Deshaun Watson secured with the Cleveland Browns last off-season.

And in the midst of a rebuild, with a host of premium picks at their disposal, it appears that is a price the Texans are not willing to pay right now.

In five seasons, Jackson has completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 12,209 yards and 101 touchdowns.

Jackson has established himself as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in league history. He has recorded 4,437 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground. He won his lone MVP award in 2019 after leading the Ravens to a 14-2 record.

So if Jackson is now out, where will the Texans go from here?

For now, Houston will likely remain focused on drafting a quarterback among prospects that include Anthony Richardson, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, and others.
