Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud Highlights REFORM Alliance with My Cause My Cleats

As part of the NFL's My Cause My Cleats initiative, Houston Texans' quarterback C.J. Stroud continues to highlight the importance of criminal justice reform.
In this story:

HOUSTON — When C.J. Stroud took the field of NRG Stadium ahead of the Houston Texans' 22-17 victory over the Denver Broncos, he was one of 35 players who participated in the My Cause My Cleats initiative.

Criminal justice reform was Stroud's cause. He wore customized cleats in honor of the REFORM Alliance organization.

The matter surrounding criminal justice reform has been significant to the 22-year-old quarterback after his father, Coleridge Bernard Stroud III, was arrested when Stroud was 13 years old.

Stroud serves as one of the organization’s Future Shapers Advisory Council members who drive awareness, education and action around unjust probation and parole laws.

The alliance held a private dinner earlier in the year, where Stroud shared stories about growing up as one of five million children with an incarcerated parent and the impact it had on his life.

"I’m excited to raise awareness about the need for criminal justice reform by highlighting REFORM Alliance on the field," Stroud said. "REFORM is on the frontlines of improving our justice system by transforming probation and parole and has made a real impact on people’s lives."

"This issue affects millions of people but often goes unnoticed. I’m honored to be able to put a spotlight on it through My Cause My Cleats. I hope we bring more awareness, support, and change to our criminal justice system."

Stroud had another impressive performance while wearing his customized cleats against the Broncos. He threw for 274 yards and a touchdown while completing 16 out of 27 pass attempts in the win.

The NFL will continue its My Cause My Cleats initiative during Week 14, marking the Texans' road game against the New York Jets. It's unknown whether or not Stroud will re-wear his REFORM Alliance cleats at MetLife Stadium. But each time he steps onto an NFL field, Stroud will always play in honor of the criminal justice reform.

"As someone with deep roots in Texas, I am inspired to see C.J. bring attention to the vital cause of justice reform," REFORM Alliance CEO, Robert Rooks said.

"Cleats do more than move players up and down the field; they have the power to inform people and realize positive change. We're grateful for C.J.'s decision to highlight REFORM and our pursuit of safer communities."
