While this Sunday didn't bring a Houston Texans football game, it did mark a special occasion for coach DeMeco Ryans' rookies.

After day three of the Texans' rookie minicamp, players from all rounds of Houston's 2023 draft class took a moment to thank their mothers on Mother's Day.

Houston kicked off its rookie camp Friday, giving each player a chance to get accustomed to the system and with their new coaches, respectively.

And while it may seem like a trivial thing in the long run leading up to the season, for Ryans, it means a lot more.

"The most important thing for me is for those guys to have a just a general understanding of the terminology, offense, and defense terminology," Ryans said. "Learning the offense, it's like learning a new language, so then you have to learn how to speak that language and speak it fluently."

Following the three-day event, rookies from across the league will convene for the NFLPA's annual Rookie Premiere Event, giving the first-year prospects a chance to gain some early marketing traction with sponsors and build connections with each other.

The Texans will be represented by their first-round selections C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., as well as by hometown receiver Tank Dell.

Houston's 2023-24 campaign is less than three months away, officially beginning on the road on August 10 against the New England Patriots.
