Bad Deal For New Texans TE Dalton Schultz? ‘100-Percent False’: Details

The Houston Texans have added a potential difference maker in new tight end, Dalton Schultz.
In this story:

The Houston Texans' offensive overhaul is in full swing.

And on Monday, they may have signed their biggest piece yet, inking former Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz to a one-year deal.

Schultz, the former fourth-round pick who last year caught 57 passes for 577 yards and five touchdowns across 15 games, has signed with the in-state Houston Texans.

There were those who thought that the Cowboys should've tagged Schultz because his $13.1 million contract would be a "bargain".

But the Cowboys didn’t see it that way.

Nor did the market.

The deal is set for one-year, with Schultz earning “up to $9 million.” … though now comes a likely more precise number: It’s actually a deal worth $6.25 mil, with the deal earning an additional $2.75 mil available in incentives

Schultz comes to the Texans after five years in Dallas, where he caught 211 passes for 2,122 yards and 17 touchdowns on 301 targets, the majority of which came over the last three seasons.

There are reports that the 26-year-old passed up a three-year $36 million deal to return to Dallas, electing instead to hit the free agent market.

Maybe there is a semantic game being played here, but TexansDaily.com has been told and has repeatedly reported that the Cowboys did not recently make a firm and "serious offer'' at that level; one source tells us that "no offer'' was made.

And now comes the agent saying that the big-money report is “100-percent inaccurate.”

Again, we stand by our reporting on the Cowboys’ (non-) dealings with Schultz this spring.

But in any event, Dallas moves on at the position, with young Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot (and maybe a premium draftee?) set to take over.

And Dalton Schulz moves down I-45 to his new home.
