NFL Draft Trade: Could Texans Jump Titans For QB?
Between now and the start of the next Thursday what the Houston Texans are doing with their pair of first-round picks will likely be discussed ad nauseum. After all, what they do with the No. 2 pick could drastically alter the proceeding picks after them.
They could go the safe route and take either Alabama's Bryce Young or Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, with Young exceedingly likely to go first overall. If they don't like Stroud, though, they may very well go defense with the second pick or even trade down to gain more draft capital.
Should they choose to go defense at No. 2 overall, though, it wouldn't preclude them from taking a quarterback with their second pick. One possible scenario in which they could do so by Todd McShay, who believes they could trade up with the Chicago Bears to No. 9 overall.
“It wouldn’t shock me," McShay said. "I already know they’ve made the one move to nine, but you’ve got Houston sitting there at 12 and a lot of rumors that they’re not going to take a quarterback at that No. 2 spot. They pick again at 12."
"Tennessee is at 11. If Houston doesn’t take a quarterback and one of the quarterbacks is still on the board when they get 9-10 in that range, they can be a team that tries to get up ahead of Tennessee to go get that quarterback.”
In this scenario the Texans jump back ahead of the Texans and get their guy. Who that guy might be, of course, is yet to be seen but if someone they love is sliding down the board they shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a deal.
A possible outcome, should this come to fruition, is the Texans drafting Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. or Texas Tech EDGE Tyree Wilson at No. 2 overall - a pair of names which they've been linked to multiple times.
This would likely set up a domino effect which could see a quarterback prospect fall to back half of the top 10. Perhaps Kentucky's Will Levis or Florida's Anthony Richardson, the top quarterback prospects after Young and Stroud, could be there for the Texans to swoop in and take.
