Texans RB Dameon Pierce Offers ‘Crushed Scouting Report’ on QB Anthony Richardson: NFL Draft
HOUSTON — Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson's draft stock has risen since his impressive outing at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
And old pal Dameon Pierce knows why.
Richardson recorded a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, 40.5 inches in the vertical jump and 10 feet, 9 inches in the broad jump — setting an NFL combine record for a quarterback.
Richardson has become a highly sought-after prospect ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. And Houston Texans' star running back Pierce would like a reunion with his former college teammate.
Pierce and Richardson spent two seasons together at Florida. Pierce described his former teammate as a physical freak but has a deeper admiration for Richardson off the field as a person.
"As you see, he [Richardson] crushed the combine — he has a rocket of an arm," Pierce said on Good Morning Football. "But he is a great guy. He is a caring guy.
"He is always involved in the community in Gainesville, it's one of the reasons why he went to Florida — to be that motivation to the kids surrounding the area. He is a great guy to be around and is an even better athlete."
Houston currently holds the No. 2 and No. 12 picks of the draft. And according to ESPN, the Texans had informed each coaching candidate that they plan on using their top selection on a quarterback during the interview process.
Richardson finished his collegiate career throwing for 3,105 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in 22 games. He also rushed for 1,116 yards and a dozen touchdowns on 161 attempts.
The Texans met with Richardson on Friday. And according to the soon-to-be rookie quarterback, his meeting with Houston was "informative."
In addition to the Texans, Richardson held meetings with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. … but Houston can be in the driver’s seat here - just like Dameon would like his Texans to be.
