Titans Looking Deeper Into Draft Prospect Pool
NASHVILLE - Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans scouting staff and general manager Ran Carthon have been busy making the rounds for various pro days and getting an up-close look at some of the under-the-radar players available in this draft class.
Among those players, the Titans saw in person included an early view of a top 2024 quarterback in North Carolina's Drake Maye, who threw for his former wide receivers during the Tar Heels pro day event.
While Maye's passing was on display, one of his favorite targets from last season, Josh Downs, was on the receiving end as he worked to secure his place on draft boards of interested NFL teams.
“This is really like my last hurrah in the building, I got a few more routes in with my quarterback,” Downs told the News & Observer. “We weren’t even supposed to do 20-plus routes, but once me and Drake and ‘Toine get in that rhythm, it’s just back-to-back-to-back and we just going and going. We were still going to go, but Galloway was like, ‘Alright, shut it down, you’re good.’”
Downs became just the second receiver in Tar Heel football history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, beside his former teammate and current Washington Commanders receiver Dymani Brown.
Though undersized by some standards, Downs (5'9" and 175 lbs) turned in a 4.48 forty time in Indianapolis, placing him just outside the top 10 of this class.
Downs teammate, offensive lineman Asim Richards, was also on display. He is a potential utility-type player who worked out at center during the pro day activities.
Then there are the Cincinnati Bearcats, where according to a report by Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel attended their pro day, most likely to watch linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. However, he got more than just Pace.
According to Pauline, Bearcat receivers "Tre Tucker and Tyker Scott both ran the 40 and improved from their times at the Combine. Both timed right around 4.35 seconds. Scott timed a best of 4.44 in Indianapolis, with Tucker coming in at 4.40."
We know the Titans are likely in the market to add at least one, and possibly two receivers in the upcoming draft, and these are just a few of the lesser talked about guys who the Titans could have interest in come April.
