NASHVILLE — If you took in all the possible reactions, both fan and media alike, to the Titans' 2023 NFL draft weekend, you'd see quite the mixed reaction. With all of the negative feedback, you'd also find a lot of folks praising the Titans' work in Ran Carthon's first draft as general manager. That includes Jack McKessy from the Draft Network who named the Titans one of his top-five "winners" of the weekend.

The Titans started off with Peter Skoronski on the offensive line and on day two made a splash with the trade up for Will Levis. The Titans added offensive pieces in Josh Whyle, Tyjae Spears and Colton Dowell. They even went to the offensive line well twice with Jaelyn Duncan. Here is what McKessy said about the Titans' haul.

"After the 2022 season, the future of the Tennessee Titans felt incredibly uncertain in a division with three other teams’ rosters catching up—or set to catch up—with the Titans’ unit. The status of quarterback Malik Willis was among the biggest points of uncertainty after a few shaky performances in his rookie season. To that end, rumors were swirling before the draft that the Titans might have been looking to trade up into the top five to grab another young quarterback. The left side of their offensive line looked like another spot that looked in need of an upgrade with the release of Taylor Lewan, even after the signing of Andre Dillard in free agency.

Well, Tennessee was quick to address those biggest points of uncertainty immediately. They took Northwestern offensive lineman Peter Skoronski in the first round and moved up for Kentucky quarterback Will Levis at the top of the second round. Skoronski played left tackle in college but may kick inside to guard at the next level thanks to his below-average arm length.

If that feels like more uncertainty for the team, don’t worry, the Titans drafted their contingency plan with Maryland tackle Jaelyn Duncan in the sixth round. Levis, meanwhile, could step into a starting role in Tennessee’s offense as soon as this year, though the Titans could opt to “red shirt” him his rookie season—a la the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes—to allow him to recover fully from a reported toe injury and learn the offense."

The Titans did add some athletic pieces on the offensive line, but the disregard for wide receiver until round seven was surprising. While the Titans trade for Levis is understandable, many in the media were not high on Levis, so it is a bit interesting to see the Titans as one of the big winners of the weekend. Maybe McKessy is on to something though and this draft class will be a pillar for which the next version of the Titans is built on.
