Titans TE Josh Whyle Named One of the 'Freaks' in 2023 NFL Draft
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans added a pass catcher to kickoff day three of the 2023 NFL draft and went with tight end Josh Whyle out of Cincinnati. The six-foot-six tight end has great athleticism to go with his great size and the combination found him on the annual "freaks" list done by Bruce Feldman from The Athletic.
Whyle has a great combination of size and speed. He can go up and over defensive players to make catches, but has the speed to beat linebackers or safeties in one-on-one coverage. Feldman talked about Whyle and what he brings to the table.
"The Bearcats have produced a bunch of Freaks in Luke Fickell’s run at UC alongside strength coach Brady Collins, and the 6-7, 252-pound Whyle is a legit talent. He caught 26 passes for 332 yards and six touchdowns in the CFP run last season. He moves extremely well for a big man, clocking a 4.65 40 to go with a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 10-3 1/2. He has also topped 20 mph on the GPS and done 16 reps of 225."
Whyle also spoke about making on the "freaks" list and why he feels he was selected after being drafted by the Titans.
"I'm not really sure of the requirements," Whyle explained as he talked about his inclusion on the list, "I think it is just kind of like, for example, Tre Tucker and Tyler Scott were on it as well and those two guys are animals. Tre Tucker, he's five-foot-nine, but can squat a house. I mean, I am six-foot-six and a half, 250(pounds) and I think I can move really well. So, I think that is probably why I am a part of it."
