Throughout the offseason, there has been constant speculation that the Tennessee Titans could reunite with former wide receiver Corey Davis, if Davis was cut by his current team, the New York Jets. That will no longer be a topic of discussion though as Davis announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday.

Davis left the Titans via free agency prior to the 2021 season and joined the Jets. Like his time with the Titans, Davis had an injury-plagued stint in New York for two seasons and it stands to reason the injuries may be the driving factor in Davis' retirement.

Davis wrote this message on his Instagram to make his declaration:

"For some time now I've been contemplating stepping away from the sport of football. This decision has not been easy. Although I am a deep person, I am a man of few words. I've been searching my heart for what to do and I feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time. I have more blessings than I could have ever imagined - I have an amazing family, a beautiful wife and two healthy children I look forward to spending more time with. I am truly grateful for all the opportunities I have had and will continue to have on my journey. Thank you to my family and friends and the Jets organization for supporting me through this process."

The Tennessee Titans drafted Corey Davis with the fifth pick in the 2017 NFL draft and while Davis never lived up to those expectations, he was a major contributor on some of the best teams in franchise history.

Davis played on the 2017 team that broke the playoff curse against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 2019 team that made it to the AFC Championship game and the 2020 that won the AFC South division title.

Davis put up 207 catches for 2,851 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in the 56 games he played as a Titan.

Davis is only 28 years old and will now move forward to the next stage of his life.
