New Titans Stadium Now One Step Closer To Reality
NASHVILLE - A new domed stadium proposed for the East Bank that would become the new home of the Tennessee Titans drew one step closer to reality on Tuesday as the Metro Nashville Sports Authority approved the final documents for the new facility in a unanimous vote.
While the Sports Authority approval was needed, it's not the final step in the approval process, as the Metro Nashville City Council must pass the final approval.
That body is scheduled to hold its third and final vote on the issue, which is set to take place on April 18.
There has been some resistance to the stadium from some within the Metro government and from citizens opposed to the new facility if taxpayer funds are used as part of the project, which was detailed in a story here on March 13.
However, it doesn't appear that there is enough opposition among council members to derail the proposal moving forward.
The stadium was originally scheduled to be ready to open in 2026, but as of earlier this year, that date has been revised with the new date set for 2027.
Statement from the Tennessee Titans.
"For several years, the Sports Authority has been a leader in the conversation to find a responsible and sustainable path forward to the stadium. We are extremely thankful for their stewardship and support o the new stadium proposal. We look forward to continuing stadium conversations with the Metro Council."
