REPORT: Texans Select C.J. Stroud, Beat Out Titans for Trade to No. 3 Pick with Cardinals
Updated: 8:48pm Eastern
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans had been rumored to be preparing to jump up to the third overall pick throughout the day, but after the Houston Texans selected C.J. Stroud at two, the Titans dropped out of the trade talks and the Houston Texans jumped up to make the move.
According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, the Titans wanted to make a move up with Arizona, but after the Texans took Stroud, they were no longer interested. This makes sense if the Titans believe that Stroud was a tier above names like Anthony Richardson or Will Levis, talent-wise.
The Titans are currently still sitting at the eleventh slot in the NFL draft and may still be considering a move up if they believe in Will Levis, who is the only highly-rated quarterback left on the board after the Indianapolis Colts selected Richardson with the fourth pick.
Update: 8:56pm Eastern
Russini has since deleted the above tweet. Reasoning has not been given, but an interesting development nonetheless.
