Aaron Brewer Shares Thoughts On Rebuilding Titans Offensive Line
NASHVILLE - Now that Ben Jones is no longer a Tennessee Titan, Aaron Brewer is set to step into the role as the starting center for the team entering the 2023 season. The fourth-year pro took his turn speaking to the media on Wednesday and wasn't shy about his thoughts on rebuilding the offensive line and his thoughts on his new position coach as opposed to the old one.
When asked about his new position coach, Brewer went right to work.
"Hoss (Jason Houghtaling) was with us last year, so we're well acquainted," said Brewer. "He ain't too much new; he was around Keith, so the coaching is still the same. We still doing what we do."
"It's just a personality change between him and Keith," continued Brewer, "Keith was pretty, super, super aggressive, and "he's (Houghtaling) is more a players guy."
Brewer was asked about the outlook for him, having played guard last season, but now with the opportunity to replace Jones as the offensive line leader.
"I've been working at center right now. I'd say that's the goal for the team. Brewer said. "That's the plan right now for me to move into that center spot and take over that role."
Brewer acknowledged he's learned from playing beside and behind Jones during his entire career to this point.
"I learned a lot from Ben. What, he's been in the league ten years, so his knowledge of the game is on another level, said Brewer. "Just from going to practice, going to games, just how he sees defenses, how he sees defensive coordinators, and how he sees people's schemes, like everything from presnap to the snap, his whole mentality about how he goes about things, how he prepares. I took all that in."
Brewer, who is considered undersized, was asked where he is at this time on his weight.
"I'm still playing around the same weight. I ain't really too light, but the media will probably say I'm about 240, 250, but I've been a solid weight for a minute now," joked Brewer. "I'll probably be around that weight still.
Brewer was then asked to clarify, specifically, his current weight.
" 290," Brewer said of his current weight.
As for the new additions, both in free agency and the draft, Brewer shared his thoughts on the newest members he will be tasked to work with.
"We've got plenty of time. It's May right now, and they got in a week ago, and the first game's not till September, so we've got plenty of time to gel," continued Brewer. "We're here with each other every day, six in the morning to about three o'clock in the afternoon, so we're gonna get there."
As for how this unit can build cohesiveness, Brewer made it simple.
"Just working together, having conversations, and making sure we're all on the same page," he said. "Sharing knowledge and just bonding together."
As for as any potential culture changes among the offensive line, there haven't been any.
"Un uh," said Brewer. "No, the culture's gonna be the culture. We're built on effort, and togetherness, like that's us, so that's not gonna change."
There's little doubt that Brewer and his new mates in the offensive line room have a lot of work to do, and the fortunes of the Titans this season will likely go as far as this unit can take them.
