Tennessee Titans Add Three Assistants to Coaching Staff
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are in the middle of the roster construction process. The focus has been on signing free agents and getting ready for the NFL Draft, but Mike Vrabel is still in the process of building his coaching staff as well. On Tuesday, the Titans announced three new additions to Vrabel’s staff. Matt Jones will serve as an assistant offensive line coach and two new names, Anthony Levine and Tom Quinn, will serve as assistant coaches on special teams.
The Titans promoted a new offensive line coach this offseason after firing Keith Carter. Jason Houghtaling will be the primary coach of the offensive line, but he will now have a new assistant in Matt Jones. Jones has a Tennessee tie as he spent the last four years coaching in the state. Jones was a run-game coordinator, tight ends coach and offensive line coach for UT-Martin. Jones has coached in the college ranks since 2002. He is the second assistant offensive line coach hire along with Mike Sullivan.
On special teams, the Titans made two additions. First, Tom Quinn, who has more of an NFL background. Quinn was with the New York Giants as their primary coach from 2006-2021. That is a long time to hold on to a job and shows that Quinn knows what he is doing. He should be a valuable resource for the coaching staff. Quinn kept his position with the Giants through four different coaching regimes which is very rare to see.
Finally, we have the other special teams addition and it may be a name folks are familiar with. The Titans are adding Anthony Levine, who spent the last decade in the NFL as a player for the Baltimore Ravens until 2021. We did a write-up on the Levine hire when the news broke yesterday. Levine played the majority of his snaps in the NFL on special teams and had a coaching position with the Ravens last year that entailed multiple responsibilities.
Vrabel has made a lot of changes to his coaching staff this offseason and while many are focused on the player side of things, roster construction and player development, we also need to notice the coaching side. Vrabel is bringing in new voices and looks to be developing himself. That is good news for the Titans.
