Titans Not The Betting Favorites Through First Six Games
NASHVILLE - In the eyes and possibly opinions of those who set betting lines on NFL games for the sports books in Las Vegas, the Tennessee Titans might not be very good this season.
Granted, those lines are designed to make the people running the sites and casinos money. They aren't in the business of losing more than they win, and of course, they are not always correct. Still, it's worth acknowledging what those folks are saying because they do win more often than not.
The Tennessee Titans open the 2023 season on the road in New Orleans, where Vgas has placed the opening line at plus-3.5, meaning the Saints are favored by that number currently.
Likewise, the Titans are underdogs to the Chargers (plus-3.5), Browns (plus-4.5), Bengals (plus-4.5), Colts (plus-1), and Ravens (plus- 5.5) before entering the bye week and becoming the favorite for the first time in week 8.
As it stands currently, the Titans are the favorites just six times, meaning they are currently underdogs in eleven games, including their road visit to Indianapolis, who are regarded as one of the worst teams in the league entering 2023.
While I have no clue what goes into making a betting line, it seems odd to me, even on the road, that the Titans would be an underdog to the Colts, but here we are; the Titans are currently the underdogs to a team who should be starting a rookie project quarterback in a week five game.
As someone with no interest in sports betting, this seems strange, but for those who are into that thing, I'm sure they could explain how this process works.
Regardless of where you stand, it's interesting to see how those who track the NFL as closely as these sportsbooks do have so little faith in the Titans this season.
