Derrick Henry Talks Will Levis as QB1: 'Excited to See What's to Come'
The Tennessee Titans made a big change this week when head coach Mike Vrabel announced the team will be going forward with rookie Will Levis as the starting quarterback over veteran Ryan Tannehill. Levis will be joined in the backfield by star running back Derrick Henry.
With Henry expected to get his handoffs from Levis going forward, it is fair to wonder if the star running back gave out any advice or congratulations to the rookie passer.
"No, I didn't really say anything to Will," Henry said while explaining if he talked to the rookie after his promotion. "Keep preparing and doing what he is supposed to do. Last few games been playing well, so just keep doing what you've been doing."
Henry may be a man of few words whether it be to his teammates or the media, but he did speak on his thoughts about Levis and like the Titans fan base, Henry admitted he is excited to see what Levis does next.
"Feel like he's done a great job, can only get better, keep on improving. Come to work everyday and working to get better. Been fun having him in there and excited to see what's to come."
The other side of this though is the relationship between Henry and Tannehill. Henry is a great player, but even his staunchest supporters have to acknowledge the role Tannehill played in Henry's ascension. You could tell by Henry's mood that he had Tannehill's situation in mind.
"You never want to see your teammate go through something like that. I just told him keep working, keep focusing on getting better and just stay locked in with it and keep being yourself."
One thing that may be on Henry's mind is his own future. The emergence of Levis and the state of the team isn't only a checkered flag for Tannehill, but could very well mean the same for Henry, even if he won't be replaced by Levis personally.
Levis signals a changing of the guard. Whether Henry is thinking of his future or not, even he can't hide from the fact that this is a very exciting time for the Titans.
