Tennessee Titans Go Offensive Line Again in Recent 2024 NFL Mock Draft
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans bolstered their weak offensive line in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft and if things play out as they do in this 2024 mock draft, the Titans will again be adding to the trenches and selecting an offensive lineman in the first round next year.
According to a recent 2024 mock from Jordan Reid of ESPN, the Tennessee Titans will have the sixth selection and draft offensive tackle JC Latham out of Alabama. Reid broke down his logic for the pick.
"Beyond wideout Treylon Burks and tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo, the Titans severely lack targets on the outside. But because there isn't another option worthy of a pick this early, I could see Tennessee looking at the trenches. Titans 2023 first-rounder Peter Skoronski has primarily been working at guard, and Andre Dillard was brought in to start at left tackle. However, Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended for gambling violations and hasn't proven himself as a surefire starter when available."
You can already hear the groans from Titans fans who certainly will want to add a playmaker of some kind, but I would personally be fine with this selection. In this mock draft both Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are taken, leaving no value at quarterback. Also, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is also off the board.
The Titans only real options at this point, as we understand these prospects now, would be one of the offensive lineman in Latham or Joe Alt. They could add to the defense as well with an edge like Dallas Turner or corner back like Kool-Aid McKinstry, but would fans be happy adding to the strength of the team when the offense is so barren?
The real debate with this pick isn't the pick at all, but more the spot the Titans landed. There is a massive divide between the media and the fan base as to how the Titans perform in 2023, which will determine that draft slot.
A lot of outside pundits, like a draft expert in Jordan Reid, look at the Titans' roster as majorly flawed and let that drive them to projecting a high pick for the Titans, but certain realities, like Mike Vrabel being the coach, make that unlikely.
The Titans finished 7-10 last season and finished the year on a seven-game losing streak that left only one game out of the playoffs while having 34 players hit injured reserve throughout the season.
The Titans are closer to being a playoff team than they are to a team that will finish with a top-six draft pick. Now, as with the draft slot in this mock, the pick of Latham and my thoughts on the Titans as a team, are all opinions and projections.
Luckily, we aren't far from seeing the truth out on the field.
