Tennessee Titans Lose Respected Executive to New York Giants
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans hired a new general manager this offseason in Ran Carthon and with that should have been the expectation that some of the front office personnel would change. We see that happening now as former vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden moves on and takes a job with the New York Giants.
Cowden spent seven seasons with the Titans. He was a key cog in the operation built by former Titans general manager Jon Robinson. When Robinson was fired during the season in 2023, it was actually Cowden that held the interim GM title.
Cowden was in the running for the Titans' GM role in a permanent capacity, but ultimately lost out to Carthon. With that being the case, it was always likely that Cowden would be moving on. Carthon will want his own guys and Cowden surely will be looking for more say than he would be given under Carthon.
Cowden first appeared to be leaving the organization in early May when he was removed from the team's website. The timing makes sense here because in the NFL it is customary to make front office or scouting changes after the draft is complete. So, Carthon kept a lot of Robinson's "guys" around until after the draft.
The Titans have since added a ton of new folks to the front office side. Max Curtis was added as the team's new player personnel coordinator, Bryce Wasserman was added as the team's director of team strategy and John Streicher, Titans' head coach Mike Vrabel's top henchman, was named director of football administration after spending time as a football development coordinator in previous years.
Cowden will now join the Giants front office as an executive advisor to the general manager. Cowden actually interviewed for the Giants' GM role prior to the 2022 season. He wasn't selected, but clearly he made a great impression on the organization. While Cowden is certainly a talent, the Titans have to feel happy with the changes Carthon has made.
