Titans' Odds Still Low Despite All Signs Pointing Towards a DeAndre Hopkins Signing
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are battling it out for DeAndre Hopkins' services as we speak. At this time, it seems like a two-team race with the Titans and New England Patriots, but despite that and recent buzz, the Titans still don't have great odds to sign the star wideout.
As of July 10, the Titans had the third-highest odds to sign Hopkins at +500, but that comes in worse than the Patriots at -120 and even the Buffalo Bills at +380. The Bills never got a visit with Hopkins, so if you believe things like betting odds, that is not a good sign.
However, some recent comments and reports should have the Titans much more optimistic about signing Hopkins than the odds would indicate. In the past few days we have heard some folks with ties to the Patriots suggesting the Titans are the real favorites here.
First, we got a comment from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler during an appearance on the "Dari and Mel" show over the weekend. The quote comes via Braden Gall who was filling in as a host for the show.
The Titans being "well-positioned" makes sense. They have a lot of things that could be appealing to Hopkins including Mike Vrabel as head coach, the ability to make a more lucrative financial offer than most of their competitors and a home in Tennessee with better weather than the northeast and no state taxes.
This is something the Patriots' own beat reporters seem to see as well. ESPN's Mike Reiss gave some thoughts on Hopkins this week and even said he leaned Titans in terms of who he thinks will ultimately sign the star.
This all sounds very exciting for Titans fans — but wait, there's more!!
In a recent discussion on the "GM Shuffle" podcast, host Michael Lombardi, who has long-term ties to the Patriots organization, said he thinks the Titans will end up signing Hopkins because they are willing to pay more for him.
At the end of the day, these are just opinions from informed sources, but that doesn't mean they will be correct or the Titans are a lock to sign Hopkins. Based on all the recent smoke though it seems pretty wild that the Titans have the third-highest odds on most sportsbooks.
The Titans are rolling the dice on Hopkins and betting he can take their ceiling to a new level, but also, if fans want to gamble on the Titans bringing in Hopkins, they can get pretty good odds as the lines don't match all the recent noise.
