Titans QB Will Levis Catches Fire at Practice, Throws Five Touchdowns on the Day
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans' quarterback who has gotten the most attention this offseason has been second-year player Malik Willis, but rookie quarterback Will Levis has started getting some positive reports and on Monday Levis had a fantastic practice.
Levis came out on fire to start Titans' practice. In a 7-on-7 drill from nearly 20 yards out, Levis complete three straight passes for touchdowns. Levis completed the first to his college teammate, tight end Justin Rigg. Levis followed that up with a second touchdown throw to rookie receiver Tre'Shaun Harrison before capping off the hot streak with a tight-window throw over the middle to Reggie Roberson for a score.
Levis completed his fourth consecutive pass of the period to tight end Thomas Odukoya, but it was short of a score. Still an excellent display from the Titans' rookie thrower and the first real explosion we have seen from Levis since being drafted.
Levis followed that up with more good football. Once the Titans got into team period(11-on-11), Levis continued to make plays even if they weren't as spectacular as the three-play sequence described above.
The Titans worked heavily on the red zone on Monday and in a full-team red zone drill Levis again put a ball on the money for a touchdown. This time to third-year player Racey McMath. The fourth touchdown throw of the day for the rookie.
Levis continued his strong play in another team red zone period when he went back to Roberson for another touchdown pass, Levis's fifth of the day.
Again, in somewhat of a surprise, Levis has not been the most-discussed young quarterback on the Titans. That honor goes to Willis, whose name has more buzz to it. Willis had a nice day for the Titans as well, but Levis was clearly the star of the show.
If Levis keeps putting up these kind of days, not only will his name garner more conversation, but he may very well slide himself into the backup quarterback role and get ahead of Willis on the depth chart. Long way to go for that, but Levis is clearly settling in.
