NASHVILLE - When it comes to the wide receivers currently residing on the Tennessee Titans roster, the overriding perception is not good. It might be even worse if you believe in the position group rankings.

Still, those players have been putting in the work during the first few weeks of the offseason program as they await the arrival of one new rookie draft selection and more undrafted rookie free agents that will join the process in the coming OTA's and minicamp leading up to the opening of training camp and the coming season.

On Wednesday, quarterback Ryan Tannehill was among four veteran Titans players who joined the media for the first players' press conference of the new league year.

While Tannehill, Chig Okonkwo, Roger McCreary, and Aaron Brewer endured multiple questions, there was no surprise when the quarterback was asked about the receivers and the work they've been putting in.

"Work? Yeah, guys are out there working hard. Treylon (Burks) has been doing a great job. Nick's (Westbrook-Ikhine) doing a great job. Kyle is out running again, so that's great to see Mason's (Kinsey) out there working hard, Ray's (Racey McMath) moving well. We have a bunch of guys that have been around and have been doing a good job for us in preparation, learning a new system, being a new offense, new concepts, all that type of stuff. But guys are digging in, they're working hard, and that's all you can ask for."

As for the current group, Tannehill knows that they will have to take a step forward this season if this offense is to improve over a season ago.

"Yeah, no question. I mean you know, look who you got in the room and that's who it is. So I'm going to have to go out and compete each and every day and we'll see who ends up getting the majority of the time, but definitely guys are going to have to step up just like they are in every position across the board."

As for the Titans not selecting a receiver prior to the final round of the draft, Tannehill provided a standard line.

"They don't ask me my thoughts on draft picks," said Tannehill. "Mike (Vrabel) and Ran (Carthon) make those decisions. Obviously, I knew it was an area that could be addressed, but they did just a little bit, probably later than I thought it was going to. But we added some other key positions, some talent that'll help us. Across the board."
