The Great Ryan Tannehill Debate Continues For Titans Fans
NASHVILLE - Will Levis became a Tennessee Titan on Friday night, and despite the overwhelming negativity toward his selection, fans, and media alike have now turned their attention to Ryan Tannehill as the debate has begun on whether to release the veteran quarterback with the $27 million cap hit, or keep him for the final year of his contract.
Newsflash, Tannehill isn't going anywhere and will almost certainly be the team's starting quarterback this season. Ran Carthon said as much, though not in those exact words. If he weren't going to be with this team this season, why would the Titans be allowing him on the property and to be working out with the other player?
Remember when they locked Steve McNair out of the building because they feared him sustaining an injury?
Nothing has changed now except the players' names and the team's owner, though she's the previous owner's daughter.
There's also the issue of those $27 million dollars owed Tannehill in 2023. What teams that still might need a quarterback can take that salary?
The answer is that only two teams, the Bears and the Panthers, currently have the cap space to accommodate that figure, and Chicago has Justin Fields, while Carolina just added Bryce Young in the draft, so neither of those are options.
It's time to stop the debate about trading or releasing Tannehill. Would it be wise for the team to cut him and eat more dead cap money without getting anything in return?
It's one man's opinion here, but he's not going anywhere because he is still a middle-of-the-league starter and the best option for the Titans to be able to win games this season.
