Top Titans to Watch on Defense in Saturday's Preseason Tilt with the Minnesota Vikings
The Tennessee Titans have most of the starting spots on their defense already decided. Most of those players will not be seen in the game on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.
However, that does not mean there aren't some incredibly exciting players to keep an eye on out there. While the starters may be close to locked, the depth positions on this defense are still up for grabs and it is time for some to set themselves apart.
Rashad Weaver - Edge Rusher
Rashad Weaver is going into his third season and there was some thought he would be the edge starting opposite Harold Landry this year, but it is clear that will be free agent signing Arden Key. If Weaver wants to certify himself as a key member of the defense, he should be dominating in the preseason.
That wasn't the case last week though. Weaver was only on the field on defense for 14 snaps and seven of those were pass rush situations, but Weaver didn't even register a pressure. He may need more reps to get into a proper rhythm and the Titans should allow that to happen on Saturday.
Chance Campbell - Linebacker
The linebacker discussion has been focused on Jack Gibbens and Monty Rice, who we were told were battling it out for the starting linebacker spot next to Azeez Al-Shaair, but don't sleep on Chance Campbell.
The second-year backer out of Ole Miss was the Titans sixth-round pick in 2022, but missed the whole season with an injury. Now, Campbell is back on the field and making an impression.
Titans coach Mike Vrabel said Campbell's speed was noticeable against the Bears and complemented how he used it on special teams as well. Campbell was a blur in Chicago and could be making a leap up the depth chart.
Monty Rice did not participate in activities this week, which could mean he won't be available to play Saturday and we can assume Al-Shaair will not be suiting up either. That leaves a ton of snaps for Campbell to continue to make his case to start.
Eric Garror - Cornerback
Eric Garror is an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana-Lafayette who got a shot with the Titans after he impressed during a group tryout earlier this summer. Garror only stands 5-foot-8, but plays with the ferociousness of a much larger human.
Garror had four tackles in the first preseason game against the Bears and did so while displaying versatility. He played 15 snaps at slot corner and another 12 on the outside. He is much more built for the slot though, so look for him to find a role there.
